A Journey to Self Love and Acceptance- NEW SERIES

SELF LOVE- PART 1-  What Makes you Happy (Self Discovery Stage)

This is the beginning of a new series in this blog called A journey to Self Love and Acceptance.

We all have access to so much of information and the media puts forth the perfect image of beauty and there are millions of selfie queens who make us feel not so beautiful anymore. The society still has a say in our life. We are losing touch with ourselves and sometimes, we have no idea who we are and what we need to do for ourselves.

Recently, I have seen a rise in articles and discussions on Self-Acceptance and Self-Love. Self-love is trending on Pinterest and other social medias more than ever before. More and more people are growing aware of the fact that to be happy and successful we need to accept ourselves, love ourselves and stand up for ourselves.

My Story

Teenagehood was awkward for me.  Growing up in a mixed nationalities school with spectacles, braces, acne, and excess body fat was not the easiest thing. Being bullied, being alienated and never having anyone to guide me through the whole Oh God my world is falling apart situation was a nightmare. On top of it, my parents failed to realize that I am an introvert and they compared me to all the other amazing teenagers around. The 15-year-old me deviced ways to die. But, I secretly wished to live and craved to be loved. Those were the days I began reading about personal development.

I have come a long way since then.Though I am not an expert, I do have a few tips and tricks to share with you all. Hence, I started this series.

After almost a month of trying out different things, for this series, I am going to share my thoughts on my version of self-acceptance and self-love. I will be posting a lot on this topic throughout this month and these posts involve certain helpful exercises that will take you with me on this journey. I am truly excited about this and hope you are too.

Now let us get the basics out of the way.

Self- love and narcissism are not the same. Self-love is the regard for one’s own wellbeing and happiness.

Self-Acceptance does not mean that you do not want to improve on yourself but, you deeply understand yourself and are aware of your strengths and weaknesses.

What helped me in the process was first finding out who I am. So I am calling this the Self Discovery stage.

What makes you happy?

On a relaxed weekend, sit down with your cup of coffee a pen and a paper (preferably a simple notebook) and start writing about everything that makes you happy.

The points to keep in mind are:

  • Be honest with yourself
  • Do not judge yourself
  • Just write about everything that makes you happy in no particular order
  • This is a type of brain dump but on a level where you are discovering yourself
  • Write down the smallest of things that bring a smile on your face

I am attaching my Self Discovery Stage image here in a fancy blog appropriate form for some inspiration.

I have the same written down in my journal (I highly recommend you buying a simple book).

What do you think about this series? Are you starting this journey with me? Let me know in the comments below.

Stay Blessed!

It is true that as u said first we should love ourself this is what even changed my approach to my life…. for what God has created us each and everyone one Of us has their own beauty so we should accept that we are beautiful in our own ways and other thing which makes me happy is that when I feel moody to make myself happy I love to listen & watch latest songs specially fast numbers or dance numbers and this makes me feel occupied. Thank u soumya for giving us a platform to share our views and thoughts dear.May God bless u….
