Should I start by complaining that motherhood made me lag behind with my skincare routine? No ways! Let us focus on the happiness of finding gems (no not literally) that helped me take my skin care to the next level with so much of ease that I now call the below mentioned products to be game changers in my skin care routine. They are more or less like skincare hacks for moms.
Lets us begin.
Banana peel
Bananas are filled with chock full of nutrients that is good for our skin but hey please don’t throw away that peel yet. Rub the inside of banana peel on your freshly washed face and let it sit for 15 minutes before you wash it off. Doing it twice a day for almost 10 days gave me fewer breakouts and my skin started to look healthier despite me consuming lots of coffee and hardly sleeping.
It is incredible how rubbing banana peel regularly on your freshly washed face gives you an even skin tone, acne free skin and some even says it diminishes the fine lines. Somehow, rubbing banana peel on my teeth did not whiten it as per the hype. But, a thumbs up for this new find (for me it is a new find) that is already a regular in my routine.
Wow : It contains magnesium, potassium ,vitamin B6 and B12.
Tip: Use ripe banana peel for better results.
Yoghurt
We all love yoghurt in our smoothies. But, I also love it on my face. The catch was, I always mixed yoghurt with lots of different other ingredients to prepare face masks. And after becoming a mom I got lazy to mix lots of ingredients from the kitchen cupboard, fridge and pantry just to put it on my face. Well turns out, just a tablespoon of yoghurt massaged for 1 minute into my skin and washed off after 15 minutes is all that is required. How easy is it to get acne free supple skin? It is as easy as opening and closing the fridge (like seriously).
Wow: Yoghurt contains zinc to zap the zits (zzz) and lactic acid which is an AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) that slows down skin aging and helps with dead skin removal.
Tip: Use at least twice a week and preferably at night as sun exposure after yoghurt application is not recommended. Also use plain yoghurt without sugar or flavors.
Sudocrem
Yes, you heard it right my son’s nappy rash cream is my acne cream or spot fighter (made my life easier) (happy dance). The magic ingredient Zinc Oxide soothes the redness and dries out the oil produced by the acne. Applying a small amount on pimples and tiny bumps and spots on my face at night was all that was required to wake up to a calmer skin. By no means am I saying that I smeared this white paste all over my face. I just dabbed it on my pimples and bumpy spots on my washed and moisturized skin at 8 pm and reapplied it at 1 am after feeding my son. The next morning, my skin looked less red and more at peace (that’s the best way to describe it). I continued to apply it on my zits throughout the day. It made my zits disappear except for a stubborn balloon like pimple. Let us be real, I did not do the full fledged acne treatment like using salicylic acid, sulphur/sulfur, glycolic acid etc. But, hey I’m happy with the results!
Wow: It is an antiseptic cream which can be used for minor burns, sores and even eczema.
Tip: Dab only on affected areas like pimples and spots.
Green gram powder
OK this is an ancient Ayurvedic remedy and I am happy to have rediscovered it and reintroduced it into my life. Basically, green gram powder is the answer to questions about dry skin, flaky skin, lack luster skin, uneven skin tone etc. It is a nutrient rich powder filled with Vitamin A and Vitamin C. Now, there are millions of recipes with green gram powder for face, body and hair. But, my two step process is tipping some green gram powder into a disposable cup and taking it with me for my shower (easy and simple yet effective). Just mix it with some water and scrub your entire body and face with it. Later, enjoy baby smooth skin the rest of the day. It is the perfect exfoliant before shaving or epilating your body. It is my ultimate mom hack as a body scrub, face scrub, face mask and mixed with baking soda it is an amazing foot scrub. Thumbs up please (wink wink).
Wow: Green gram powder mixed with few spoons of cold green tea makes the perfect face wash in the mornings with an antioxidant boost.
Tip: Store in an airtight container and tip out only required amount. If preserved right, it lasts for 4 to 5 months.
So what do you think about my mommy skincare hacks?
